hatching big plans
“Papa has a nice body. And mama – mama has a big belly,” Munchkin declared thoughtfully after waking up in our bed the first morning of our Namibia trip.
A few days earlier he had admonished S, “Mama, don’t eat all my food – you have a big belly!” S “popped” a lot earlier the second time around, and while Munchkin was quick to notice her growing midsection, we have kept him in the dark regarding its cause. The reason being that even at three he still has only the most tenuous grasp on the concept of time. Typically, if we tell him that he will get to do something – go swimming, have cake, watch a video, fly in an airplane – he will demand it immediately and repeatedly, no matter how carefully we explain that we didn’t mean right away. With S only in her second trimester, we thought it better to avoid non-stop questions about the baby’s impending arrival for months on end.
So, now that we have made our good news internet-official, Munchkin will be the last to know that come summer he will get upgraded to big brother status, as we get ready to welcome his little sister into this world.
A massive thank you to S’s sister, whose artwork we like even better than the one we used for Munchkin.
